No tax bonus for building renovations after all
Homeowners cannot count on tax incentives for energy efficiency measures for the time being. This was made clear by Social Democratic parliamentary leader Thomas Oppermann in a letter to party members saying that no agreement could be reached in the pertinent government committee. The reason for this was said to be the negative attitude of Bavaria. In December, it seemed as if the law was a certainty, after federal and state governments favored it at a top meeting. The law would have allowed building owners to deduct 10-25% of their renovation costs from their tax burden until 2019, starting retroactively in January, 2015. As an alternative, the letter said the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs will now heighten KfW grant programs for energy efficiency renovations.
