Lübeck: Kaufland acquires 3 ha site
Kaufland has purchased the 31,000 sqm slaughterhouse site on Schwartauer Allee in Lübeck’s St. Lorenz district from developer Thorsten Schulze. The company is planning to build a Kaufland store, other retail space, and apartments on the site. Schulze had unsuccessfully negotiated with the city for years to put such plans into action. Most recently, the voter’s group “Bürger für Lübeck” (Citizens for Lübeck) had tried to launch a public petition against the project. The group has now stated that it will no longer collect signatures and intends to advance the new plans together with Kaufland. Jörg Brauer, project manager for real estate development region North at Kaufland, now intends to discuss the plans for a city quarter with citizens, policy makers, and administrators.
