Berlin: 60,000 sqm new space planned around former Funkhaus

Several investors intend to develop the grounds around the former East German broadcasting building Funkhaus in Berlin-Oberschöneweide into a large creative quarter. Fortress Immobilien of Düsseldorf wants to invest roughly €75mn in the lots Rummelsburger Landstraße 34-62 to build about 40,000 sqm GFA in eight new structures. Added to that is the existing former editorial office. The plans include studios, offices, a hotel, a fitness center and restaurants, as well as about 300 underground parking spaces. Construction is scheduled to start in Q1 of 2021 and be completed two years later; the concept was developed by KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten. The roughly 8,600 sqm neighboring lot on Nalepastraße 78-80 has been owned by the Peterson Group for a year, who has contracted the development to P.ARC Real Estate. Under the title “Nalepaland”, around 20,000 sqm office space are planned there, also for creatives and founders. The landmarked Funkhaus building Nalepastraße 18 itself was bought in 2015 by Uwe Fabich and Holger Jackisch, who operate a center for the arts and music business at that location.
