Frankfurt and Hamburg bring home MIPIM Awards
Two of the twelve MIPIM Awards this year went to projects in Germany. The rebuilding of Frankfurt’s old town center, under the direction of DomRömer GmbH and numerous architects, was awarded a prize in the category of Urban Regeneration, while the Hamburg student residence “Woodie”, by Primus developments, Senectus and the architectural firm Sauerbruch Hutton, received the coveted award for the Best Residential Development. The 13,000-sqm-GFA hybrid building was constructed in only nine months by Kaufmann Bausysteme from Austria, using 371 wooden modules. Other winners announced yesterday evening in Cannes include ACM’s Paris “Laborde” in the Office Development category, the Hirakara T-Site (Japan) by So-Two Inc. as Best Shopping Center, the Greenwich Peninsula Low Carbon Energy Centre in London (Pinnacle Power, Knight Dragon) and the Italian resort Club Med Cefalù.
