Hamburg: Four Parx reviews underground transport system for city logistics
Four Parx has commissioned a feasibility study for an underground tube system for supply and disposal in inner cities. The new transport medium is to initially connect a logistics center planned in the Wilhelmsburg district with a distribution warehouse in Altona 5 km away. The tubes, in which on principle all palleted goods and materials could be transported, would save up to 1,000 vehicle trips every day, the company estimates. Four Parx is looking for suitable sites for both the one-storey warehouse planned in Wilhelmsburg and for the micro-hub in Altona, which could have seven floors with 14,000 sqm. The feasibility study is being conducted by Cologne-based firm Smart City Loop, which could build the tube system “relatively soon” if the result of the study is positive.
