Hamburg signs 30-year lease for Peaksides’ “Fernmeldeamt”

The University of Hamburg, the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and the Leibniz Information Centre for Economics (ZBW) will move into the historic “Fernmeldeamt Schlüterstraße” property in 2023. The property has approximately 50,000 sqm GFA. Peakside has owned it for several years. The city signs a 30-year lease for practically the entire building. The nearby University of Hamburg will relocate the offices, seminar rooms and laboratories of its Humanities and Social Sciences department there. GIGA and ZBW are currently located at Neuer Jungfernstieg 21 in a building that belongs to the city and the federal government; its subsequent use is still undecided. The “Fernmeldeamt” was built in 1907 and is a listed building. Its neo-Gothic facade and its size make it one of the university quarter’s most striking buildings.
