Increase in number of apartments under 1%


The number of apartments in Germany rose slightly in 2018. The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported 42.2 million apartments at the end of the year, 267,000 or 0.6% more than at the end of 2017. This comes to the building of 509 apartments per 1,000 inhabitants, 14 more than eight years prior, and signifies a portfolio increase of 4.3% in comparison to 2010. Living space per apartment increased by 0.9 sqm to almost 92 sqm, while living space per inhabitant increased by 1.7 sqm to 46.7 sqm.
