Magdeburg: Amazon building 120,000 sqm logistics center on their own
Amazon started construction in late-2018 of a large logistics center in a shared commercial park of Saxony-Anhalt’s capital of Magdeburg and the neighboring community Sülzetal. According to market circles, the online retailer is initially developing 120,000 sqm hall space, 100,000 of them for logistics, on the lot on Bielefelder Straße in Sülzetal-Oberweddingen. Further sections are to follow. Amazon acquired the 45 ha construction lot without a developer or investor as a go-between. This is unusual, as the company has thus far always leased its German logistics centers. It is said that the corporation now also considers developing strategically important locations on their own. In the case of Magdeburg, they decided to build on their own despite a previous call for tenders. Amazon themselves declined to comment on the project.
