Record number of overnights in Leipzig

Leipzig anticipates more than 1,200 new hotel rooms by the end of this year, almost twice as many as in 2018 (670). Leipzig – a major trade fair city – recorded the highest bed growth among Germany’s top 10 locations since 2011, according to an analysis by the consulting firm Dr. Lübke & Kelber. Almost 3.4 mn overnight stays were logged last year (+6.5%). This is a new record, but Dr. Lübke & Kelber predicts that this record may fall again this year. A significant decline has left Leipzig with a RevPar of €50.70, putting it in last place among the top 10. The report states that the strong rise in the number of beds has significantly reduced both occupancy rates and room rates in Leipzig. Dr. Lübke & Kelber expects further capacity expansion of 14.6% in 2019, whereas demand is expected to increase by only 5%.
